Sending for signature

How to Request a Signature by Email

Requesting a signature well is mostly about preparation. Assign the right fields to the right people before sending, and most of the follow-up disappears.

Free · No credit card · No signing limits

Short answer

To request a signature by email with Bond4Docs, upload your PDF, add each recipient by name and email address, drag fields onto the document and assign each one to a specific recipient, then send. Each person receives a unique secure link and completes only the fields assigned to them, without needing an account. You can require a signing order, set an expiration date, and send reminders to anyone outstanding. Sending signature requests is free with no monthly limit on how many you send.

Per-recipient fields

Each signer sees only what they are responsible for, which is the single biggest reducer of back-and-forth.

Order and deadlines

Sequential signing and expiration settings for requests where timing matters.

Visible progress

Draft, sent, viewed, and completed status for every recipient on the request.

Prepare before you send

Most signature requests that stall do so because the recipient was not sure what to do. Assigning fields by recipient and marking the necessary ones as required removes that ambiguity: the recipient is guided to exactly what they must complete and cannot submit until it is done.

If you send the same document repeatedly, save it as a template with its fields already positioned. Subsequent requests become a matter of naming the recipients and sending.

Multiple signers

When several people sign the same document, decide whether the order matters. Parallel signing is faster and works when the parties are independent. Sequential signing is the right choice when a later signer needs to see what an earlier one entered, such as a manager countersigning a completed form.

  • Assign every field to a specific recipient
  • Use sequential signing when one signature depends on another
  • Set an expiration for time-limited offers or deadlines
  • Send manual reminders, or rely on automatic ones
  • Keep completed documents organized in folders

After it is signed

When the final recipient submits, the document reaches completed status. You can download the finished PDF together with its audit history and completion certificate, which records SHA-256 hashes covering the document and the captured signing information.

Keep that completion record with the document. It is the part that lets you demonstrate later what was signed and by whom, and it is what distinguishes a defensible agreement from a PDF with a picture on it.

How to request a signature by email

  1. Upload the document

Add the PDF to your Bond4Docs workspace, or start from a saved template if this is a document you send regularly.

  2. Add your recipients

Enter each recipient's name and email address. Saved contacts can be reused so you are not retyping the same details.

  3. Assign fields to each person

Place the fields each recipient must complete and assign them by recipient, so nobody is shown fields that are not theirs.

  4. Set the order and deadline

Turn on sequential signing if one person must finish before the next begins, and set an expiration if the request is time-sensitive.

  5. Send the request

Send it. Each recipient receives an email containing their own secure signing link.

  6. Track and follow up

Watch status move through sent, viewed, and completed, and send a reminder to anyone who has not finished.

Frequently asked questions

How many signature requests can I send for free?

Bond4Docs does not impose a signing limit. You can send signature requests without a monthly allowance and without entering a credit card.

Can I send one document to several people at once?

Yes. Add as many recipients as the document requires, assign fields to each, and choose whether they sign in parallel or in a set order.

What happens if a recipient does not sign?

The request stays outstanding and you can see its status from your dashboard. You can send a reminder, and if you set an expiration the request will expire on that date.

Can I edit a document after sending it?

Once a request has been sent, the document recipients see is fixed so that the signed record matches what was presented. If something needs to change, cancel the request and send a corrected version.
